A Message to the Congregation From Our Synagogue Co-Presidents

Fellow Congregants,

We are writing as newly elected Co-Presidents of ICCJ to express our appreciation for your overwhelming endorsement for the Incoming Slate of Officers and Board of Trustees, which assumes its responsibilities on June 13, 2020.

As you all know, we face a period of unprecedented challenges. Our building has been closed since mid-March, religious services and all other synagogue activities have been curtailed and there is no telling as yet when normal community life will resume. We have no ready answers for the many questions all of you must have, but we are writing to assure the congregation that we are committed to maintaining the cohesiveness of the ICCJ community, reaching out to members in need and enhancing ways to provide religious services, educational programs and other community activities during this continued period of closure. Beyond that, we must start the process of careful planning for the eventual reopening of the synagogue.

First and foremost, the two of us want to assure everyone we will act in a cautious and prudent manner, following the directives of Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio , the Federal Centers of Disease Control and United Synagogues. Your safety and peace of mind are our primary goals. Needless to say, we want to hear about your concerns and hopes for the future. Under normal circumstances, we would hear from many of you at a meeting, during a Shabbat luncheon or a stop in the synagogue office. Right now, none of that is possible. So we encourage you to contact us by e-mail or phone to let us know your thoughts about the challenges ahead. Our contact information is listed below. We will keep you informed in a timely way about all decisions made by the Officers, Trustees and Clergy.

Finally, and most importantly, stay healthy and stay safe.

Sincerely Yours,

David Schwartz and Sam Weiss

Greetings From Rabbi Saks

The COVID-19 has caused concern like no other health threat in our lifetimes.

As a result, the Leadership of the Temple, including the Cantor and myself, have decided to close the synagogue building, except in emergencies, and cancel all religious and non-religious activities, including Shabbat Services, for the foreseeable future.

I am here to be whatever help I can, and will be providing educational materials online, including important articles, and Divrei Torah. We will also be making classes available online, with more specifics forthcoming.

You can reach me at any time by email at rabsaks@gmail.com. Together we can get through these coming weeks with courage, compassion and a sense of community.

With Blessing,

Rabbi Moshe Saks
