Social Action: Jay Woliner
Shalom from the Social Action Committee.
We hope you are all safe and well.
ICCJ has formed a Social Action Committee that I have volunteered to Chair.
We got off to a quick start, and with the unanimous approval of the Board of Trustees, were able to provide 250 mylar thermal blankets to the Coalition for the Homeless, which is located at 129 Fulton Street, in lower Manhattan.
The Coalition has been providing clothing, and meals, on a daily basis for the last forty (40) years to the needy.
They accomplish this by packing three (3) vans, which go on a nightly journey to 25 locations around the city, where they assess the needs of each of their recipients, be it coats, hats, scarfs, socks, and gloves. They also provide 1200 meals each day.
The Director of Development, Sarah Murphy expressed her gratitude for the donation, which she said is greatly needed at this time.
This year, because of Covid, and the projected onslaught of many more cases, coupled with expected extreme temperatures, the blankets may prevent deaths, and hypothermia.
We welcome all of your ideas, and look forward to continuing our outreach, with more projects anticipated in the pipeline.
